2017 AGS SA-NT Field Trip

About the field trip

O-Bahn2The O-Bahn City Access Project builds on the State Government’s significant investment in a stronger public transport network The primary objective of the O-Bahn City Access Project is to improve travel times and reliability for users of the O-Bahn service. The project will extend the O-Bahn system from the end of the busway at Gilberton into the cross-city priority (bus) lanes on Grenfell Street. The project will include the creation of centrally aligned priority bus lanes along Hackney Road and a dedicated bus tunnel from adjacent the National Wine Centre to near Grenfell Street, providing quicker, more reliable access for O-Bahn buses into the city.

In October 2015 the Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure (DPTI) awarded the design and construction of the O-Bahn City Access Project to McConnell Dowell (MCD) Australia. This is a challenging project involving building a tunnel in a very constrained site with a high watertable.

This field trip will start with short presentations about this project, followed by an inspection of the works. The presentations are:

  • Project Overview – Dariusz Fanok (Project Manager, DPTI)
  • Geotechnical & Hydrological Investigation (Michael Anchor, Senior Geotech Engineer, DPTI)
  • Analysis of Results of Investigation and Design of Tunnel and Dewatering (Tom Hills, Associate, Golder Associates)
  • Construction Challenges (Mario Russo, Project Manager, McConnell Dowell)

For this inspection we require participants to wear:

  • Long sleeved shirt
  • Full length trousers
  • Fully enclosed shoes (steel-capped boots preferred)

And bring with them:

  • A hard hat
  • High visibility vest
  • Safety glasses
