Groundwater Issues Related to Tunnelling

Joint Evening Technical Meeting with the Australasian Tunnelling Society

Dr Harry Asche and Mike Dudding

Dr Harry Asche

Dr Harry Asche will illustrate the importance of hydrogeology in tunnel planning, design and construction. He will also discuss the fundamentals of hydrogeology; the tools used by hydrogeologists to define and identify the critical parameters; how to make sense of the data; and “tips for tunnellers”.

Dr Harry Asche is a well known tunnel engineer with more than 20 years of project experience including design and construction projects in the UK and Australasia. Harry’s projects in Australia include, amongst others, the Brisbane Rail Tunnels, Sydney Airport Link and Melbourne EastLink.

Mike Dudding

Mike Dudding will talk about groundwater inflow measurements, during a recent rock‐tunnelling project in Melbourne, and compare inflow measurements with predicted values.

Mike Dudding is a Hydrogeologist with more than 25 years experience of the interpretation of groundwater pumping tests and groundwater modelling. Mikes projects include the Eastern Freeway Tunnel, the City Link Tunnels and the Northern Sewerage Project (NSP).
