About Ebrahim Fathi
Ebrahim Fathi is a Geotechnical Engineer with over nine years of experience in rock mechanics, and the design and stability analysis of surface and underground excavations. He served as a tunnel engineer for the first five years of his career. During this time, he was involved in a broad range of projects that included the design and stability analysis of underground excavations as well as mechanised tunnelling and excavations in problematic ground. Since 2013, Ebrahim has been studying at the University of Newcastle where he is investigating the mechanisms that govern post-mining subsidence. He has investigated the role of several time-dependent factors that influence movement over man-made excavations, particularly old abandoned mines. These factors include deterioration due to weathering and moisture effects as well as creep.
Ebrahim obtained a BSc of Mining Geomechanics form Isfahan University of Technology (IUT) and a MSc of Rock Mechanics Engineering from Amirkabir University of Technology (AUT). He is in the final stages of PhD thesis submission.
