Dr Burt Look

Burt has 38 years of professional Engineering experience with his early years in structural and civil works. He has been Queensland based for the past 32 years. He was previously the Global Practice Leader in SKM (now Jacobs), and the Global Knowledge and Service Line Geotechnical Group leader at Aurecon. Burt is the 2014 Queensland Professional Engineer of the year and the Australian Geomechanics Society (AGS) Practitioner 2018. He is a Diplomate of Geotechnical Engineering (DGE) as awarded by the ASCE Academy of Geo Professionals.

He has served as Chairman of the Queensland Chapter of the AGS in 1999-2000, and Chairman (2004–07) of the Organising Committee for 10th Australia – New Zealand Conference in Geomechanics, Brisbane 2007. Burt has published 3 geotechnical engineering books and over 80 technical publications focused on industry practice developments within Australia and internationally.

Dr Burt Look is a Senior Principal at FSG Geotechnics + Foundations. He completed his Master’s degree in Soil Mechanics and Engineering Seismology at Imperial College, London, and his PhD part-time at The University of Queensland while also working at Queensland Main Roads. He also has a Graduate Certificate in Philosophy from The University of Queensland.
