This session will be presented by a senior construction executive, who will discuss the nature of geotechnical risk as viewed by construction contractors, and via some real-life examples, discuss how these risks can best be communicated and managed for the benefit of successful project outcomes.

About Vito Trantino

Vito is a professional Civil Engineer with 23 years’ experience in civil and marine infrastructure design and construction. In January 2018, Vito was appointed Executive General Manager – Engineering, Technology and Innovation for McConnell Dowell Corporation. Vito’s team is focused on growing McConnell Dowell’s Creative Construction brand, strengthening customer and consultant relationships, driving competitiveness with innovative and technical solutions and establishing engineering best practice across the Group. Previously (from April 2016) Vito led the Engineering function for Australia at McConnell Dowell.

Vito graduated from Monash University in 1994 with first class honours subsequently held structural engineering roles with BHP, Hatch and GHD. Vito joined McConnell Dowell in 2002 and has held numerous roles in construction engineering, design management and regional engineering management. Vito has led the engineering on key multi-disciplinary projects including Seaford Rail Extension in Adelaide which comprises the longest incrementally launched bridge in the southern hemisphere and the Port of Melbourne Capacity Project which comprises the longest interconnected tubular and sheet pile wharf in Australia.

Vito has extensive technical knowledge across a range of market capabilities including rail, bridge, marine and civil infrastructure and is strengthened by expertise in project planning, cost control processes and contract and risk management, all of which play an integral part in the ability to successfully and profitability deliver projects and achieve business outcomes. In 2017, Vito was awarded the accolade of one of the top 30 innovative engineers in Australia by Engineers Australia for his leadership and contribution to the innovative use of non-metallic materials in harsh marine environments.
