Field Testing Short Course
The Field Day is a half-day course designed to be an opportunity for attendees to try a number of techniques to evaluate the near-surface material condition via common hand-operated tools.
This includes the opportunity to undertake testing to evaluate in situ modulus parameters via static Plate Load Test (PLT) and Lightweight Deflectometers (LWDs), as well as using penetration tests (PANDA [variable energy] Probe and the commonly used DCP). The aim of the day is to allow geomechanics practitioners an opportunity to see how the tests are completed in practice, such that they are familiar with how the data reported on test certificates is collected in the field. The field day is a great opportunity for early career professionals to discuss the techniques with experienced operators, or for experienced practitioners to discuss the applicability and limitations of each in situ test technique.
The use of the Port of Brisbane site for this field day also allows a unique opportunity for attendees to complete a full-scale demonstration of each test – and is specifically designed to be practical in nature rather than a theoretical discussion about each test technique—inclusive of a heavy reaction force for completion of the PLT.
