AGS Brisbane Symposium 2024
Geotechnical Ingenuity for a Sustainable Future
The Australian Geomechanics Society (AGS) Queensland Chapter is holding its Annual Symposium 2024 titled “Geotechnical Ingenuity for a Sustainable Future” on Tuesday 29 October 2024. The event will be combined with the QLD Chapter’s 2024 AGM.
The symposium, a full-day event, will feature a morning break, lunch, an afternoon break, and networking drinks. It will commence with updates on the Chapter’s activities and the presentation of the 2024 report, as well as the chapter’s plan for 2025, followed by a series of technical presentations.
The symposium forms part of the continuing program of events organised by the AGS Queensland Chapter. It seeks to foster ideas and discussions concerning one of the fundamental aspects of design, construction, and research that are increasingly gaining traction in both industry and academia.
Symposium Speakers
Keynote
Glenn Hedges CPB Contractors
What’s Driving the Sustainability Agenda for Principal Contractors?
Glenn is CPB Contractor’s Sustainability Manager on the Cross River Rail RIS project in Brisbane and a co-founder and Member Director of the Infrastructure Sustainability Council.
Whilst his days of rolling mud snakes and postulating over whether to describe a soil as ‘clayey silt’ or ‘silty clay’ are long over, he has been in the environmental management, sustainability and innovation fields both in the UK and Australia since the mid-90’s (you do the maths). Much of that experience has involved rail, road, tunnelling and other public infrastructure as a principal contractor, though fun fact he started his career as a contaminated land assessment and remediation subcontractor mostly supporting petroleum clients.
Glenn believes that business has an important role in solving the significant climate and ecological challenges we face in a way which creates value to both shareholders and society. He also believes that sustainability in its simplest is another lens to innovate and doing things cheaper, faster, better, safer and greener.
