An Effective Stress Approach to Mine Backfill

The lecture discusses some unique aspects associated with representing the consolidation of cementing soils including the influence of cement hydration on stiffness and permeability as well as a unique aspect termed self desiccation. These aspects are incorporated into a numerical model (termed Minefill-2D) that couples the time dependent processes of filling, consolidation and cement hydration. This model is compared with some laboratory and field experiments to demonstrate its validity.
