About the demonstration
For some time, the AGS has been been trying to arrange a CPT/SDMT demonstration and workshop, but suitable sites rarely become available. However (at short notice) such a site has become available, for the afternoon of 12 September. This field demonstration will therefore provide an ideal accompaniment to the presentation on “Key Learnings from In Situ Testing” to be presented by Professor Paul Mayne, during the evening of the same day, at the University of Melbourne.
The soil conditions at the demonstration site promise to be very interesting, as they are predicted to include Port Melbourne Sand, Coode Island Silt and Fishermens Bend Silt. Attendees will, therefore have the opportunity to see CPTs and SDMTs being performed in a wide range of soils. Nick Ramsey will provide commentary on practical aspects of the tests, as well as explanation and preliminary interpretation of the test results..
About Nick Ramsey
Nick has over thirty five years international geotechnical experience on a wide variety of projects. His particular interest is formulating reliable ground models for engineering purposes, by integrating in-situ testing, laboratory testing and geophysical data. Nick has published his own CPT interpretation model, and was a Keynote Speaker at CPT10 – the International Conference on Cone Penetration Testing, Huntington Beach, California, in 2010.
