AGS QLD invites everyone to join us in celebrating International Women in Engineering (+ Geology) Day on Wednesday 19th June at 7:00 am at Mirra, Fortitude Valley.
The morning will include three short presentations by women in the Ground Engineering industry, focussing on their career stories. Your ticket includes a delicious breakfast buffet spread and plenty of opportunity to network with friends and colleagues in our industry.

Diane Mather
Lessons Learnt/Career Summary
Diane has more than 25 years’ experience in design and construction of civil infrastructure and mining projects, and has successfully developed, managed, and delivered a wide range of design and construction programs across many disciplines. Diane has delivered a range of design and construction work packages on several major projects including Clem7 (NSBT), Airport Link, City Rail Link, Westconnex M5East, Westgate, Sydney Metro, Melbourne Metro and Brisbane Cross River Rail. Diane was the winner of the inaugural Australian Tunnelling Society 2021 Women in Tunnelling Outstanding Achievement Award.
Jan Stirling
From the Canadian Arctic to the Australian Great Sandy Desert: a career journey in geotechnical engineering
Jan is a professional engineer with over 12 years of experience in applying the principals of geotechnical engineering to the design, construction, and delivery of mining and infrastructure projects in North America, South America, and Australia. After starting her career working in cold regions engineering, she has since worked across several different geographies and sectors with a focus on landslide stabilization and monitoring, foundation design, and tailings storage facility design and management. In February 2023 she moved to Brisbane with her young family to establish BGC Engineering’s first office outside of the Americas.
Emma Maxwell
Digging In: Building a Career in Geotech
Emma is an Associate Geotechnical Engineer at Douglas Partners with over 8 years of consulting experience in a range of geotechnical projects throughout Southeast Queensland, Townsville, Cairns, Melbourne, and Darwin. Emma joined Douglas Partners as an undergraduate and has since developed a focus in soft soil settlement analysis, predominantly for Brisbane Airport and Port of Brisbane. She is currently completing a Master of Engineering Science (Geotechnical Engineering & Engineering Geology) at UNSW.
