International Women in Engineering Event – Sydney Chapter

The AGS Sydney Chapter cordially invites professionals in Geotechnical engineering and engineering Geology to partake in the festivities commemorating International Women in Engineering Day. This occasion will take place on Thursday 31 August 2023 from 12:00 to 14:00 and will provide an opportunity for attendees to mingle and enjoy a light lunch.
The event will be held at the Engineers Australia venue, the Harricks Auditorium – located on the Mezzanine Level at 44 Market St, Sydney.
Throughout the gathering, guests can draw inspiration from the women of the AGS and in the field of geotechnical engineering and engineering geology while also expanding their network. This event is free of charge for members and students.

Speakers
Miren Barinaga Geotechnical Team Lead and Senior Geotechnical Engineer, Arcadis Australia Pacific
Miren has worked as an underground structure designer for the last 10 years. Her initial career working in the design office of a lead specialist contractor in France focused on complex diaphragm wall designs for iconic projects such as Thames Tideway in the UK or various new Metro Stations in Paris. When moving to Sydney, she became the site-based design manager of the Barangaroo 1B & 4/5 packages for the same contractor. She also designed the foundations of the new Alliance Stadium. Since joining Arcadis she has worked in various linear infrastructure projects such as Warringah Freeway Upgrade and Sydney Metro West. She now leads the NSW geotechnical team as part of the Civil Structures Team.
Gina Pena Rincon Ground & Underground Engineering Practice Leader, NSW & ACT, Aurecon Australia
Gina is a Geotechnical Engineer with over 17 years of experience in geotechnical engineering consultancy in Australia, the United Kingdom, and Colombia. Gina has worked in multidisciplinary projects ranging from feasibility to concept and detailed design, to construction services. Gina’s extensive experience in geotechnical risk assessment includes route pioneering for high-speed railways and pipelines. Gina currently leads the Ground and Underground Engineering Team in Aurecon and has also successfully performed as Project and Design Manager for the design and construction services for a variety of projects.
