Queensland AGM and Annual Symposium
Recent advance in geotechnical engineering, engineering geology, and testing
The Australian Geomechanics Society (AGS) Queensland Chapter is holding its Annual Symposium 2022 on Tuesday 29 November 2022. The event will be combined with the QLD Chapter’s 2022 AGM. The theme of this year’s event is Recent advance in geotechnical engineering, engineering geology, and testing. The format of the event is a full-day event including morning break, lunch, afternoon break and networking drinks, starting with the chapter updates and report for 2022 and chapter plan for 2023, followed by technical presentations.
Programme details include:
- Two very recent advances in bored piles installation monitoring: SQUID and SHAPE, Ross Evans – Wagstaff Pilling
- The Medusa, Automated DMT. A new tool – a very good one!, Allan McConnell – IGS
- An innovative way to interpret thermal and seepage soil property; Richard Kelly – SMEC
- Recent drone application to engineering geology, Sally Roberts-Kelly – EDG
- Guidelines for the development and application of engineering models on projects, Darren Paul – IAEG
- Rapid compaction technics, Melisa Brown – WSP/Golder
- Innovative re-use of recycle material in infrastructure project, Bari Thomas – Aurecon
- CMC – Automation of finite element (FEM) input and outputs of large amount of axis symmetry modelling data for a combination of varying embankment height ground conditions and ground improvement using Python, Douglas Tun – WSP/Golder
- Geotechnical model testing for field application, Chaminda Gallage – QUT
- UQ Sustainable Engineering Design Scale-Up Facility and Training Centre on Future Dam Engineering, Alex Scheuermann – UQ
- Recent approach of risk management in geotechnical engineering, Chris Bridges – Aurecon/QUT
- Micro-scale study on internal erosion using CFD-DEM and PIV, Yingyi Zhang – UQ
- Statistical Analysis of an SPT-CPT correlation in South East Queensland, Yohanne Faivre – USQ
The symposium presents an opportunity for professional engineers, researchers, specialist contractors, regulators, educators and students to meet and share their knowledge and experiences in geotechnical engineering.
