Selfs Point Sewage Treatment Plant Upgrade Field Trip
David Le Roux and Andrew Hall
As part of their commitment to improving and updating infrastructure for Hobart’s future growth, TasWater is undertaking one of its most significant projects to date. One of its key aspects is the Selfs Point Sewage Treatment Plant upgrade. Menards is conducting ground improvement using Controlled Modulus Columns (CMC) at Selfs Point to provide suitable bearing to build the new tanks on. This site visit will include a brief presentation about the project and the CMC ground improvement technique. It is a unique opportunity find out firsthand about one of the Tasmania’s largest modern water infrastructure projects.
Other aspects of TasWater’s overarching project are construction of a 4.3-km Macquarie Point to Selfs Point pipeline and creation of a new Macquarie Point Sewage Pump Station. Together, these three expansions and upgrades will enable treatment of up to 25 megalitres of Hobart’s wastewater per day.
