Tamar Valley landslide field trip and workshop
The Tasmanian Chapter in association with Mineral Resources Tasmania is holding a workshop and field trip in the Launceston area. The 2-day meeting will preview and discuss the latest landslide mapping in the landslide prone Tamar Valley that feeds into a statewide planning layer. It will also include a case study on an active landslide in an urban setting.
The first day (commencing at 1pm and finishing at 8.30pm) will include a series of technical presentations and an evening meal, all at the Tramsheds Function Centre.
The second day will comprise a bus trip to inspect an active landslide in the morning, where investigation methods and mitigation solutions will be demonstrated.
The afternoon will be spent visiting sites south of Launceston to demonstrate the utility of the new susceptibility mapping and the types and styles of landslide features that occur there.
The field trip departs from and returns to the Tramsheds Function centre; 8.30am to 4pm. Refreshments including lunch will be provided.
Participants are welcome to join in on an informal walk afterwards, up the beautiful Cataract Gorge (with a few geotechnical issues thrown in) should they wish. This will be followed with a meal at a location to be decided.
Bookings are essential to reserve a place and to indicate any dietary requirements.
