University Research Student Presentations
Various speakers
Research students from our Victorian institutions will give a short talk on their research projects throughout the technical meeting. The main objective is to let the AGS members know about some of the current research and development studies being undertaking in Victoria, and to share and discuss R&D needs and ideas. Topics and speakers are summarised next (in alphabetical order):
- Analysis comparisons of large scale rock slopes using finite element and limit equilibrium methods
Maged Almandalawi (University of Ballarat) - Evaluating the mechanical behaviour of unbound granular materials for pavement base applications
Hamed Haghighi (Swinburne University of Technology) - Challenges with soil mixing in acid sulfate soils.
Shahidul Islam (Monash University) - Minimisation of Damage to Residential Structures Due to Ground Movement
Aruna Karunarathne (Swinburne University of Technology) - Rock mattress performance and behaviour of constant modulus columns supported reinforced
embankments. Daniel King (Monash University) - Two and three dimensional slope stability assessment for layered soils.
Kelvin Lim (Deakin University) - Study of geopolymer as well cement for geological sequestration of CO2.
Nasvi Mohamed (Monash University) - A numerical approach to predict the resilient modulus of unbound granular materials.
Bao Thach Nguyen (RMIT) - The Monash desiccation cracking test for assessing shrinkage cracking potential of clay soils.
Ben Shannon (Monash University) - Phytocaps as biotic systems to mitigate landfill methane emissions (the A-ACAP investigation).
Jianlei Sun (The University of Melbourne) - Adapting geothermal energy systems for Victoria conditions.
Amir Valizadeh Kivi (The University of Melbourne)
Engineers Australia members participating in AGS technical sessions can record attendance on their personal CPD logs. Members should refer to Engineers Australia CPD policy for details on CPD types, requirements and auditing guidelines.
