Our home office for IAEG, which is in China, has produced one of the best newsletters ever. It is Newsletter 4 and the link is at the beginning of the newsletter. Congratulations to our staff! We have lots of geodisasters happening around the world! Major landslides on the Isle of Wight (United Kingdom), Tanzania, and Seattle, Washington are highlighted. There is a great article about Jakarta, Indonesia sinking very fast. The great news, though, comes from India where the 41 workers in the tunnel with the collapsed entrance have been recovered!
The 44th ISRM online lecture will be delivered by Dr. Manchao He, from China. The lecture title is: “Possible strategy for landslide prediction”. It will be broadcast on December 14th at 10 A.M. GMT, from the Online Lecture's page.
We have no new IAEG news this week (next week we will have a lot). Two major geodisasters, though, this week caused major losses of life! Landslides in a copper mine in Zambia killed at least seven miners and a volcanic eruption on Mt. Marapi killed another 11 people.

In the news we have the world's largest iceberg moving again, a newly found seamount off of the coast of Guatemala, a deadly landslide in Alaska (U.S.) and sand mining in Vietnam.
For the next couple of weeks we will be summarizing some of the big news items from our congress in Chengdu! The first thing that we want to highlight is we elected two new honorary members of IAEG in Chengdu! Dr. Giorgio Lollino and Dr. Paolo Allasia of Italy were both given honorary memberships in IAEG, one of our highest honors.
