Members are invited to attend the SPARC-QUT research Showcase event, which will be held on the 21st of April, 2023, at QUT Gardens Point Campus from 8.30 am to 5 pm in OJW room (Level 12, S-Block). SPARC Hub is funded by the ARC (Australian Research Council) and 20 industry partners to undertake some 42 industry-based research projects over five years period (2019–2025). Join the Australasian Tunnelling Society (ATS) and Australian Geomechanics Society (AGS) for a one-day seminar on the impacts that building construction has on tunnels. There is an increasing demand for the assessment of the potential impact of new building construction, including new tunnels, on existing tunnels and other underground infrastructure. There are limited resources both on the approvals side and for developers to carry out these assessments and particularly in a timely manner. The purpose of this seminar is for presentations, papers and a panel discussion to provide useful information for the broad range of participants involved. On May 8-9 2023, UC Berkeley Faculty and colleagues are offering a 2-day short course on “New Technologies for Geotechnical Infrastructure Sensing and Monitoring.” The course was offered the last two years and was very well received with a total of 334 participants from 34 US States and 42 countries. The May course will update previous versions of the course and provide a review of some of the latest technologies that are about to, or are already impacting the way we design, maintain, or operate geo-infrastructure and the way we manage risk. The ISRM Young Rock Engineer Award is conferred in recognition of one or more of the following achievements in rock engineering practice: A complete description of the nature and objectives of this Award, as well as of the nomination procedure, can be found in the “Guideline for the ISRM Young Rock Engineer Award”. Nominations for the award shall be by the nominee’s National Group, or by some other person or organization acquainted with the nominee’s work. Self-nominations are not accepted. Dear colleagues around the world, It will be my honor to take part in this Panel about the recent disaster in Turkey and Syria, that will take part at the ASCE Geo-Congress conference in Los Angeles USA.
