About the speaker Dr. Norikazu Shimizu is an Emeritus Professor of Yamaguchi University, Japan, and is currently working for the Organization for Research and Development of Innovative Science and Technology, Kansai University, as a Specially Appointed Professor. He started his academic career in the Department of Civil Engineering at Kobe University in 1981. The ISRM Technological Innovation Award is conferred on ISRM corporate members in recognition of one or more of the following contributions to the progress of applied rock mechanics and rock engineering: Nominations for the award shall be by the Chairs of the ISRM National Groups, which are kindly requested to spread this announcement through their members and to coordinate the nomination procedure. The President, Professor Marc Ballouz, is pleased to announce that Dr Andrew McNamara will be appointed as the new Secretary General of ISSMGE. Dr McNamara will take up the appointment after the next ISSMGE Council Meeting on 13 August 2023 held in conjunction with the 17th Asian Regional Conference on Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering, Astana, Kazakhstan. Dr McNamara is a practicing engineer with a strong attachment to academia and research. He is both Chief Engineer, Skanska UK Building and Senior Lecturer in Geotechnical Engineering, City, University of London. He will bring a wealth of experience and leadership to the ISSMGE Secretariat, and we look forward to working with him on the Board of ISSMGE.
