An update on the Landslide Inventory and Susceptibility Modelling in the Illawarra with an analysis of the 2022 Rainfall Events

Connor Larkin, Darshika Palamakumbure and Phil Flentje

The University of Wollongong New South Wales Landslide Inventory now totals 2,214 landslides, comprising of 148 falls, 368 flows and 1,696 slide category landslides, with 262 landslides mapped in 2022. The extensive rainfall observed in the Illawarra in 2022 has been analysed at extended durations of up to 150 days to determine the effects of combined rainfall events. These effects have been compared to the mapped landslides in 2022 to determine rainfall distribution and landslide movement relationships. Extensive landslide monitoring data has been reviewed to identify relationships between the parameters monitored and landslide performance. The Slide and Flow Susceptibility Modelling has also been updated to reflect the additional landslides mapped in 2022 and it now covers the entire Wollongong City Council local government area.
