The Use of the Dilatometer Test (DMT) in Soil Investigation and in Geotechnical Design

Prof. Gianfranco Totani

The seminar gave a general overview of the DMT and its design applications; indications and guidelines for the proper execution of the DMT; and highlighted a number of significant recent findings and practical developments.

Attention was mostly focused on the application of the DMT to the following engineering problems: settlements prediction; determination of flow parameters ( in particular the coefficient of consolidation); study of landslides; analysis of laterally loaded piles; evaluation of liquefiability of sands; and densification control.

Engineers Australia members participating in AGS technical sessions can record attendance on their personal CPD logs. Members should refer to Engineers Australia CPD policy for details on CPD types, requirements and auditing guidelines.
