Applications of Artificial Intelligence in Geotechnical Engineering
Prof Mark Jaksa
Given the variable nature of soils, and the uncertainties associated with sampling, testing and modelling, geotechnical engineering is particularly amenable to the application of artificial intelligence. The presentation will provide an overview of artificial intelligence methods and focus particularly on artificial neural networks and genetic algorithms, and their application to a range of geotechnical engineering problems. The presentation will provide a background to these techniques and discuss their benefits and limitations. A series a case studies will also be presented to highlight the power and versatility of artificial intelligence.
